Healthily Ill
Based on an original posting: August 2006
In an age where medical advances and medicines are more potent, why is it that ever more people are being classified as unhealthy or in a state of dis-ease? There is a growing sophistication in the medicines and procedures, yet a growing number of people are getting ill. This conflict does suggest a very sinister scenario as for what possible reason are more people getting ill when the medicines are supposedly getting better.
By lowering arbitrary thresholds for defining 'ill-health', more people can so be classified. Just lower a value for 'good health' to below the norm and instantly create a huge population of 'sick' people.
No wonder both public and private health insurance is overwhelmed though, of course, this simply results in raised charges. Paid for through premiums and taxes by the 'sick' insured. Cynically, healthy tax payers also pay a heavy price for their wellness. Many people are probably reasonably healthy (or better), but have been redefined as patients in need of treatment. Notably, many newly created diseases are healthily in society today for which there is a pill close behind.
- Drug companies are at the same time highly profitable
- Private medical schemes and insurance are climbing
