A Footballer's Initiation - John Terry

Original posting, September 2006

John Terry is initiated into mainline football: the new England captain was fined £100 for failing to tell police who was driving his Bentley when someone was filmed speeding in it.

Where? Do you care? I don't.

And I don't particularly like football, but certainly less (and even less now) after this report. And I certainly don't 'like' John Terry as a result. Respect is easily lost. One of these pseudo-celebs. Not particularly well known till now, but all of a sudden really (self) important.

Who is John Terry anyway?

English rugby 'Generously', Terry admitted not responding to police within the one-month time limit. Couldn't do anything else but admit that, if he didn't respond, could he? Probably, forgot. Anyway, is this all you pay? £100. Presumably you get the points added to the licence? But, maybe you don't. After all, there is no conviction. No crime. Simply the 'oversight' of not responding. I'll pass it on (pun intentional).

  • Did you know that the choice exists of paying £100 for a speed awareness course and no points added to your licence or pay £60 with 3 points? A trade: £40 = 3 points. If you don't get points it won't affect your insurance. Effectively, pay £40 extra to have no points added.

£100 and 0 points
£60 + 3 points

It requires integrity and a sense of real responsibility
to admit speeding rather than...
